Day 1: Marrakech – Talouet – Ait Benhaddou
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch and a visit to the historic Kasbah of Talouet, once the stronghold of the powerful Glaoui family. Afterward, continue through the picturesque Ounila Valley to reach the legendary ksar of Ait Benhaddou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Morocco’s most iconic villages, known for its striking mudbrick architecture and use in many famous films. After a guided visit to the kasbah, you’ll settle in for the night in a local guesthouse.
Day 2: Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades Valley – Tinghir
After breakfast, depart for Ouarzazate, often called the "Hollywood of Africa," and visit the Atlas Film Studios, where many blockbuster movies were filmed. Continue to Skoura, a lush palm oasis, and visit a rose cooperative in the Valley of Roses. This area is especially beautiful in spring when the roses are in full bloom. Enjoy lunch in the dramatic Dades Gorges, known for its towering rock formations and winding roads. Later, travel to Tinghir, a peaceful town near the Todgha Gorges, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 3: Tinghir – Todgha Gorges – Merzouga (Sahara)
Begin the day with a short walk through the impressive Todgha Gorges, a natural wonder with cliffs over 300 meters high. Visit a traditional Berber carpet cooperative where you can learn about the weaving traditions of the region. On your way to the Sahara, stop to explore the Khattarat – an ancient underground irrigation system that sustained life in the desert for centuries. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Merzouga, where you’ll ride camels across the golden dunes to your desert camp. Enjoy a spectacular sunset, a traditional dinner, and live music around the fire before sleeping under the stars in your tent.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Agdz
Wake early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, then return to the village for breakfast. Visit Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, and explore the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif. Then, stop at a local fossil workshop to see ancient marine fossils found in the desert. Continue your drive through the arid landscapes to Alnif for lunch. In the afternoon, travel through dramatic scenery to the oasis town of Agdz, nestled in the Draa Valley. This quiet town is the perfect place to relax and reflect on your desert journey.
Day 5: Agdz – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
On your final day, begin your return journey to Marrakech. Travel through the palm-lined Draa Valley, retracing your steps through Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains. You’ll arrive back in Marrakech by the late afternoon, bringing with you unforgettable memories of Morocco’s breathtaking landscapes, Berber hospitality, and the magic of the Sahara Desert.
